We do not buy dogs and will not pay a fee to take a dog. We will, however, reimburse shelters, pounds, and other rescue organizations a reasonable fee if we are asked to help and are able to take the dog.
A Word About "Free To Good Home" Ads
We understand that there are circumstances in which an owner cannot keep their dog. However, we do caution those considering placing an ad for their dog as "Free To a Good Home" that not all people wishing to take your dog have the same motives. If you can surrender to a rescue, please do. Rescues thoroughly screen their adoptive homes, and they foster the dog in their own homes until it is adopted. Therefore they learn more about the dog and its needs, as well as what type of home would be ideal as a placement.
If you will not surrender your dog to a rescue, or cannot find a rescue to take your dog, please consider either a well-run shelter, or if you must place an ad, a reasonable adoption fee...and screen the potential family carefully. Take the dog to their home, check things out, ask them questions. It's a small thing to do to ensure the safety and welfare of your dog.
